The Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a treasure of South India, offers a daily trip through beautiful mountains. During busy times, there are more trains to accommodate the higher number of visitors. The journey goes from Mettupalayam to Ooty, with a stop in Coonoor, showcasing amazing scenery along the 46-kilometer route.
You can choose between first-class and second-class tickets. For a calm ride with great views, go for first class and enjoy the passing landscapes.
While the iconic steam engines might be replaced by diesel ones sometimes for more power, the charming blue and cream carriages remain the same, possibly familiar from South Indian movies.
